Denture Relining for Maximum Comfort

Throughout life accidents happen and we all get older, partial or complete tooth loss can become a huge problem. You can improve both your oral health and your appearance by replacing missing teeth.

Dentures not only support the structures and muscles in your face but decrease oral bone loss. Well-fitted dentures can solve this problem, restoring clarity in your speech, providing you with confidence, and helping you eat easily. If your denture starts becoming loose or uncomfortable, then perhaps it’s time to talk to your dentist about relining your dentures.

You may need your dentures relined due to changes in your bone and gum tissue caused by ageing, weight loss or injury. As your gums naturally shrink over time, we recommend booking a reline at least once every two years. However, it may be time for a reline any time you notice irritation on the gums, movement of the denture while you eat, or if you experience discomfort.

Call (07) 5491 2288 to arrange an appointment in Caloundra, Maleny or Woombye. We’ll assess the changes to your mouth, make the necessary adjustments and have your dentures fitting snug in no time.

Simple & Complex Relines

At The Denture Care Group Sunshine Coast, we understand that being without your dentures for any length of time isn’t ideal. When it comes to relining your appliance, we aim to have the process completed as soon as possible.

For small adjustments, our prosthetists take your impressions in the morning, complete the reline onsite and will contact you for pick-up that afternoon. In some circumstances we may need to send your denture back to our laboratory for a more complex fix, so the reline may not be completed until the following day.

Once your dentures have been relined, rest assured we’ll schedule a follow up appointment to check that they fit and function well before you leave our clinic. If you have any queries about our relining services or would like to arrange a consult, our team is here to assist you. Give us a call today!

The Importance of Relining Your Dentures

Relining is an essential step in denture care for all our patients. Our prosthetists apply a resin coating on the inside surface of your full or partial denture where it rests on your gums. This will replace broken parts of the denture and improve the fit by conforming to changes in your mouth’s hard and soft tissue.

Relining can help you avoid the complications caused by ill-fitting dentures, including:

  • Breaks, cracks & complex fractures
  • Poor oral hygiene caused by trapped plaque & food
  • Chewing difficulty leading to nutritional deficiencies & indigestion
  • Gum irritation, inflammation & an uneven bite
  • Ear pain & headaches
  • Ulcers, blisters & fungal infections
  • Tissue overgrowth

Take preventative steps now for better oral health and to prolong the life of your dentures. Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is denture relining?

Denture relining is a process of adding new material to the base of your dentures to improve the fit. This is usually done if your dentures start to feel loose or uncomfortable, or if your mouth changes shape. It's a less expensive alternative to getting new dentures, but it will need to be redone every few years.

  • My dentures are feeling loose what should I do?

If your dentures are feeling loose, contact us as soon as possible. We can adjust the fit of your dentures or reline them if necessary. It's important to get a proper fit to avoid discomfort and prevent your dentures from moving or slipping. If your dentures do not fit properly, it may cause irritation in your mouth.

  • How often will I need to reline my dentures?

Depending on your unique situation and the type of denture you have, you should anticipate undergoing a denture reline every year or two. Some indications that you may require a denture reline can include:

    • Gum discomfort and sore spots in the mouth.

    • Dentures that are ill-fitting and shift when you speak or eat.

    • Difficulties speaking or eating due to movement.

If you are aware that you require relining, talk to the team at The Denture Care Group about same-day relining service.

  • What are some tips for maintaining my dentures?

It's important to take good care of your dentures to prevent them from becoming damaged. Be sure to brush your dentures daily with a soft-bristled brush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Avoid using hot water on your dentures, as this can cause them to warp. Soak your dentures in a mild cleaning solution overnight and rinse them thoroughly before putting them back in your mouth. Be careful not to drop or bump your dentures, as this can break them.
